归渠Guiqu-Level design and level art

In this project, I was responsible for both Level Design and Environment Art implementation. I also acted as a communication bridge within the team, coordinating between the Lead Programmer, Lead Designer, and Artists. For this presentation, however, I will focus primarily on the level design aspects rather than the environment production work.
The game's core mechanic revolves around two-player elemental cooperation: one player controls Water, while the other controls Fire. During early development, we initially planned to include four elemental powers. However, due to production constraints and project scope, we decided to narrow the design focus and fully develop the cooperative gameplay centered around Water and Fire abilities.
The following is an overview of my level design process.
At the beginning of development, I created rough sketches to establish player flow, gameplay objectives, and pacing. The final level layout was divided into three major sections: the Tutorial Area, the Main Gameplay Area, and the Boss Encounter.
Environment Art & Visual Guidance
One aspect of my environment work that I believe is particularly worth mentioning is visual guidance.
Throughout the level, I consistently considered sightlines and environmental composition to help players understand:
Where they should go next.
Which landmarks are important.
Which areas contain locked mechanisms or future objectives.
My goal was to communicate progression naturally through the environment whenever possible, reducing reliance on explicit UI instructions.
As my first collaborative game development project, I believe completing the project successfully was already a significant achievement.
The experience taught me the importance of communication within a multidisciplinary team.
I communicated most frequently with the Systems Designer, which allowed us to maintain a strong shared understanding of the intended player experience.
Looking back, however, I think I could have been more proactive in coordinating communication across the entire team. With stronger cross-disciplinary alignment, the final result might have been even better.
